Inventors Association of Connecticut
Dennis Jakiela, Ph.D. will speak at the Inventors Association of Connecticut on "U.S. Patent Law - A Brief History," on October 23, 2018 at Fairfield University.
Dennis is a patent agent who writes and prosecutes U.S. and international patent applications and is an advisor to foreign associates all over the world on his clients’ foreign patent filings and prosecution. He has a B.A. in Chemistry from Wesleyan University, and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Stony Brook University, with a focus on organometallic chemistry, including nickel-mediated reactions, organoiron compounds, and asymmetric synthesis. After working at Sun Oil, Dennis joined then American Cyanamid research laboratories in Stamford, Conn., which later became Cytec Industries (1993), and then became part of the Solvay Group (2015). Dennis rose to Principal Research Scientist at Cytec and gained experience in all aspects of industrial chemical research and development, including product development, process development, process scale-up, applications testing, and technical service. He concentrates his practice on engineering thermoplastics, thermosets, coatings, polymer and coating additives, ore processing, and chemical manufacturing processes.
His talk is divided into four parts: a brief history of patents; anatomy of a patent; brief overview of the patent process, and patentability requirements (laws).
