AUTM’s Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of technology transfer professionals. This annual, international meeting is a chance to connect, and gain insights from world-class speakers and panels from more than 90 educational sessions. The 2025 meeting will be held March 2-5, 2025 near Washington, D.C. in the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Maryland. Charlie O'Brien, Anne Maxwell, Ph.D., Bryan Zerhusen, Ph.D., and Howard Levy will attend.

Anne Maxwell is Partner and Chair of the Pharmaceutical Patent Practice. She provides all aspects of patent representation to clients working in chemical and life science research with a particular emphasis on the pharmaceutical and agricultural chemical industries and is trusted counsel to numerous university technology transfer offices. She performs searches, determines patentability and freedom to operate, drafts and prosecutes patent applications, counsels clients in their development of effective patent protection worldwide, and assists clients with licensing and due diligence.

Bryan Zerhusen, Ph.D. is Partner and Chair, Life Sciences Practice. His clients include solo inventors, academic institutions, foreign law firms, venture firms, as well as companies ranging from start-ups to global corporations in the medical biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, diagnostic, chemical, pharmaceutical, medical device and healthcare sectors. Bryan also has extensive experience negotiating and preparing agreements relevant to the life science industry, including collaborative agreements and IP licensing agreements on behalf of solo inventors, venture firms, start-ups and emerging companies.

Charlie O'Brien is the Chair of Cantor Colburn’s IP Transactional Practice Group. He concentrates his transactional practice on the exploitation, transfer and licensing of technology. Charlie has extensive experience in all aspects of complex IP licensing, including the preparation and negotiation of patent license agreements, software license agreements, joint development agreements, trademark license agreements, material transfer agreements, joint marketing and promotion agreements, and the like. Charlie is also a member of Cantor Colburn’s Litigation Department and has extensive experience in litigating IP related actions, including patent infringement actions and contractual disputes regarding IP rights. These skills provide him with useful and sometimes critical insight for his clients into issues and conflicts that can arise in IP transactional matters. This allows him to address these potential issues and conflicts early on at the transactional stage.

Howard Levy became a patent attorney because he found it was the best way for him to contribute to the advancement of science and technology. Howard’s favorite part of his job is meeting with inventors, learning about their work and helping them obtain patents that encourage further innovation. Howard’s talent for quickly understanding various technologies related to aerospace, power generation systems, electronics, semiconductors, computer science and more allows him to easily connect with inventors working in all sorts of industries. An innovator himself, Howard developed his unique accelerated examination (AE) practice over the course of many years. Howard discovered that AE allows his clients to maintain a level of control over their patent applications that is unmatched in the US and around the world. He is always prepared to discuss this option and welcomes any interest from his clients and his colleagues. Howard has drafted and prosecuted thousands of patents related to mechanical, electrical and computer science fields. In addition to his domestic practice, Howard manages a large foreign prosecution docket.
